If you’re reading this, there’s a good chance that you’re frustrated with a rodent infestation and are looking for help on how to effectively get rid of mice in your home! First of all, we completely empathize. Mice are the worst! Second of all, you should know that disposing of them isn’t easy and takes a lot of time, patience and even money. Read on for tips on how to keep away these pesky rodents for good:
The best way to handle an infestation is to find out how they’re entering your home. Remember, vermin can fit through holes the size of a dime so it may take some extra effort on your end to seek out their entry points. In order to keep mice out of the house where they belong, invest in steel wool or caulking to cover up the suspected areas. Other effective methods include replacing weather stripping and screening vents and openings of your chimney. Also, keep in mind that you should maintain the landscaping outside of your home to prevent them from finding new ways to get inside. Ensure you cut your shrubs away from your house so they don’t use it as a bridge of entry.
Once you’ve found the source of the issue, invest in some traditional mouse traps which are still super effective at getting rid of mice. Lay out the traps wherever the pests are, especially in the kitchen. As bait, spread a dollop of peanut butter on top of the trap to lure in as many as possible. Remember, it’s rare that there’s ever just one mouse as unfortunately, they multiply quickly so it’s important to be proactive.
Rodents enter homes mainly to find food. When you have an infestation, never leave munchies out in the open or on countertops. Keep all food stored away in air-tight containers or put it away in the fridge. If mice don’t have anything to eat, they’ll grow hungry and well… we all know what happens after that.
Sometimes, handling a pest problem is an extremely difficult task that feels impossible. If it feels like every time you catch a mouse, you hear more mice in the walls or rodents in the attic, it might be time to call an exterminator.
…Or, a cat. Cat’s work great too.
