This is what you should do right away now that we are done with winter.
Check gutters and drainage.
Check downspouts and make sure they drain away from your home.
Clear your foundations and check for low spots.
Fill low spots around your foundations.
Check low areas in your yard and fill.

• Yard flooding can lead to foundation damage.
• Water pools become breeding grounds for insects.

Check around the doors and window for leaks with a screw driver or knife.

• Fix any bare materials before spring rains cause more damage.

Rooves need to be checked.

• Check for broken tiles.
• Check for exposed downpipes.
• Clean your gutters.
• Consider a professional roof inspection.

Check concrete.

• Inspect concrete slabs for signs of cracks or movement.
• Make sure all concrete slabs drain away from the home.
• Check concrete slabs around pools also drain away from the home.
• Fill cracks in concrete with filler or silicone.
• Consider power washing and sealing your concrete.

Remove firewood or other fuel sources.

• Remove firewood stored near the home.
• Firewood should be stored at least 18 inches off the ground at least 2 feet from the structure.

Check outdoor taps and piping.

• Check outside hose faucets for freeze damage.
• Fix any dripping taps immediately.
• Check for damage pipes by blocking the tap and turning on the water - listen for sounds of leakage.
• Check hoses for ground rot.

Clean up your air conditioning.

• Clean filters.
• Consider a professional air conditioning inspection once a year.
• Clean coils.

Tidy up your gardening equipment.

• Clean spades, forks and rakes - long term dirt and mud will lead to rust.
• Check your lawn mower blades and clean - you will get a lot more grass-cutting power.
• Check anything with a motor to make sure it is running well for the coming seasons.
